USMAA Event-Meet the Instructors

Sensei Colin Treem
Colin Treem, Godan Goju Ryu Karate-do; has been training under Hanshi Ron Treem since the age of 4 and utilizes both his martial arts and educational training to best aid the dojo. Colin holds Yudansha level ranking in Jujutsu and Judo. Colin also is a Women’s Self Defense and Street Defense course instructor.

Hanshi Ron Treem
Ron Treem began his martial arts training in 1975. Over the past 30 years he has studied in the US and Japan with such noted masters as Shizuya Sato (jujutsu), Tadanori Nobetsu (karate), Robert Blaisdell (karate, kobudo), Teruo Chinen (karate), Anthony Anissi (aikijutsu/aikido), Philip Porter (judo/jujutsu/aikido), and Katsuo Yamaguchi (iaido). Treem Sensei was recognized in 2002 as master instructor of the year by Philip Porter, 10th dan, the “father of American judo” and founder of the United States Martial Arts Association. He currently holds the ranks of 8th dan in karate, 8th dan in jujutsu, 6th dan in judo, 8th dan in aikido, 3rd dan kenpo, and 4th dan in kobudo (weapons).
Sensei Treem was awarded the title of Hanshi in 2012 by the United States Martial Arts Association, the first in the organization.

Sensei Robin Boss
RokuDan, Shinsotsu Karate Do.  Sensei Boss has over 20 years of experience in martial arts.  He was awarded the title of Renshi last year, appointed to the KarateDo USMA Board of Examiners this year in the USMAA

Sensei Kevin Fuller
18 years total experience, including:
– Tae Kwon Do (ITF and WTF), Yondan
– Aikido (Aikikai), Shodan
– Judo, Sankyu
– Arnis/Escrima
Sensei Fuller has been with White River Budokan for 2 years. His martial arts experience had been a welcome addition to White River Budokan.

Shihan Todd Labrie
Shihan has been practicing martial arts since 1977, and was recently recognized as a 7th degree black belt holding a Kyoshi (teaching grade). His 3+ decades of experience includes many styles that use both forms and fighting, which gives a holistic perspective to martial art practice. The practice of striking, grappling, and weapons fighting has taught such a broad range of techniques that all styles have been woven into a comprehensive curriculum that teaches principles and concepts from every known genre of martial study. Shihan holds ranks in multiple forms of karate, escrima, and jujitsu and other arts. His experience has culminated in what is now called Kitsune Ryu Bujitsu, or “Fox Style of Fighting Arts”.

Sensei Josef Roubal
Sensei Roubal currently holds rank of Rokkudan in Judo from the USMAA. Sensei has been studying martial arts since 1964, beginning in Czechoslovakia, winning the Slovak National Championship in 1970. Sensei arrived in the USA in 1987 and has been practicing and teaching judo in Burlington, VT. He has visited White River Budokan and is a respected and treasured visitor to White River Budokan

Sensei Robert Kline
Master Kline began his taekwondo training in the early 80s and joined the Blue Wave in 1995. He has been the instructor at Bradford Blue Wave since 2000 under the guidance of his instructor, Master Tom Robinson. Master Kline competed nationally in 2003 taking home gold for Olympic-style sparring. He also attended and completed the International Instructor’s Certification Course at the Kukkiwon in South Korea in 2007.

Shihan Tom Flynn
Tom Flynn is the Director and Head Instructor of the Green Mountain Dojo in central Vermont. He also continues to oversee the Marubashi dojo of Massachusetts, where the Vermont’s school roots first began. Flynn Shihan’s karate training began with Judo in 1969 and Kyokushin Karate in 1971. He currently holds the rank of Godan , certified through the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan of Tokyo, Japan. He also holds yudansha grades in judo, aikido and kobudo.

Sensei Bill Kamataris
Sensei Kamataris began his martial arts training in 1971 and is a Police Sargeant with more than 25 years experience in law enforcement. Current ranks are:

Sensei is also a certified USA boxing coach and certified Police self defense instructor. He has been active in other seminars hosted by USMAA and White River Budokan.

Master Leigh Rossi
Leigh Rossi is a professional martial arts instructor who holds a 5th Degree Black Belt under Dave Castoldi in Small Circle Jujitsu. Additional Ranks include 5th Degree Black Belt from JA (Jujitsu America), 4th Degree Black Belt and Life Member of USMA (United States Martial Arts Association), a 5th Degree Black Belt with Kitoshakai International and a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Judo.
Leigh has been studying and training in the martial arts since 1978. Leigh is a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor and Spontaneous Knife Defense Instructor for Law Enforcement and Security Professionals through PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) now currently known as Human Factors Research Group/Warrior Science Group.
Having most of his formal training under Professor David Castoldi, his teaching style is a dynamic blend of Castoldi’s Jujitsu, Small Circle Jujitsu, Wing Chun, Judo, and ground fighting.
Master Leigh Rossi received 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award for over 30 years of dedication and contribution to the martial arts.

Sensei Steve Gilcreast
Steve Gilcreast began his martial arts training under Hanshi Richie Bernard studying Shorin-Ryu and Goju-Ryu Karate Do. Steve began training in Jujitsu in 2004 and is a Second Degree Black Belt with Jujitsu America. He is the recipient of the 2007 Ohana Award. Steve also holds a Black Belt under Dave Castoldi in Small Circle and is a life member and Black Belt with the United States Martial Arts Association. Steve has extensive experience teaching fighting skills.

Curt Cummings
Curt Cummings began training BJJ in February of 2000, in Maui, Hawaii. Curt had known of BJJ for years prior, having an uncle who trained under Renzo Gracie in NY and would visit Curt and teach him techniques from time to time. It wasn’t until a friend introduced Curt to Travis Pennington, a brown belt at the time under Renato Verissimo (BJ Penn’s main instructor) that Curt began training BJJ at Impact Zone, a Nova Uniao academy in Maui- a BJ Penn affiliate school. While in Maui, Curt did very well competing with his team in many large tournaments.
Curt trained in Maui for a total of 7 years before moving back to NH in 2007, starting his own school and becoming an affialiate of Robert Drysdale, a Las Vegas, NV based world champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and newly signed UFC fighter. Curt now owns and operates Impact Zone Brazilian Jiu Jitsu located in bow NH and also operating out of Checkmate Martial Arts in Manchester NH.
After 13 Years of training, Curt has earned his black belt, he continually works with Robert Drysdale, and he shares his vast knowledge of BJJ with his students and those lucky enough to have the opportunity to train with him.

Sensei Richard Hubbard
Sensei Richard is a lifetime martial artist with over 20 years of experience in a broad range of disciplines. He has trained in many different forms of Karate, Kickboxing, and JuJitsu, as well as Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and Reality Based Self Defense. He was a varsity wrestler in High School, and President of two martial arts clubs while in college. In 2010, he was the JuJitsu America Sport JuJitsu National Champion in his division. As a classically trained actor, he has trained and utilized many different forms of meditation, vocal training, body and energy work, and has lived and trained in both Tibetan and Zen monasteries. He has been a formal member of the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism since 2002, and a member of The100 (a unique Martial Arts Professional organization) since 2009.
Sensei Richard holds an interdisciplinary Third Degree Black Belt in Kickboxing and Kenpo Karate under Master Terry Dow, Ikkyu (Third Degree Brown Belt) rank in Small Circle JuJitsu / Checkmate JuJitsu System under Master Leigh Rossi, and Blue Belt rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor John Fain. He has completed multiple instructor certifications in several Reality Based Self Defense systems including Blauer Tactical’s PDR, The Self Defense Company, and Wagner Reality Based Personal Protection. He is a certified Verbal Judo instructor, Fiore System Anger Management educator, and was an Ultimate Black Belt Test Team 7 member under Master Tom Callos. In 2011 he founded Prevail Defensive Tactics, his specialized system of civilian self-defense. He has been a Senior Instructor at The Training Station in Manchester under Master Terry Dow, an Instructor at Checkmate Martial Arts in Manchester under Master Leigh Rossi, is a student of Triumph Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA in Nashua, and travels the country teaching seminars on a variety of topics from meditation to Reality Based Self Defense. Training and teaching martial arts has been a full time job for Richard for the last 5 years. During that time, he has traveled the country learning from and training with some of the most renowned experts in their respective fields, including Tony Blauer, Rory Miller, Tom Callos, Urijah Faber, Shawn Tompkins, Eddie Bravo, Tony Fryklund, David Castoldi, Kai Li, Bill Wallace, Rick Alemany, Danny Dring, and many others.
