It was quite and eventful day during the Dave Castoldi Jujitsu Seminar today.
Master Leigh, Sempai Steve and Sensei Nate all received Award certificates. Master Leigh received his 5th degree, godan, Small Circle Jujitsu black belt certificate signed by Wally Jay. Steve and Nate received a rank certificate from Professor Castoldi.
Sempai Steve was promoted to 2nd degree black belt (nidan) by Master Leigh.
Maria was promoted to sankyu Brown Belt. (and was thrown forcefully by five black belts… Lucky Maria!)
Oh yes, there was excellent jujitsu demonstrated and practiced (with great enthusiasm) by all in attendance. The calls of “Mattee! Break! Break!” were frequent an loud. (but no jujistuka was injured…)

Congratulations Jeff on being promoted by Sensei Leigh to jujitsu orange belt on 8-16-2010. I had a great selection of shots to pick from, and the attached photo gallery shows some of the highlights from Jeff’s test.

With over 100 images in the album, I think everyone who took part is represented. There’s some nice techniques captured, and some facial expressions indicate that there really is (controlled) contact!

Congratulations John, Jose, Brian, Mike and Richard! Five new brown Belts in one day! It was a wonderful day for the dojo, and a great demonstration of jujitsu.
Thanks to all the Checkmate Martial Arts students who turned out for you. I think the size of the turnout (on a Saturday morning at 7:30) says everything about the regard and respect which your fellow students feel towards you.

Sean’s Blue belt test was a over two months ago, on 2-22-2010. The attached photo gallery shows what a great demonstration Sean put on.
One highlight was when Sempai came out of the chute with a knife in one hand and a gun in the other. Sean remained calm. I hope I do as well during my next test! This gallery is well worth browsing. Many of the Ukes were in top form that evening, so there are good shots of many Checkmate students. There are also a few fairly humorous shots.
